Homemade knitted hats are the way to go! And when they are also wonderfully soft, it just doesn’t get any better. In this recipe, I have used cheater cables, which means you don’t need an auxiliary needle and it makes it undeniably a little easier to work with.<\/p>\n\n

In fact, this is a no-nonsense beanie, it’s soft, has a beautiful and simple pattern and is stretchy so it stays in place.<\/p>\n\n

It’s knitted in double yarn, so it’s dense and quick to knit on chunky needles.<\/p>\n\n

Add a big pom pom, which is all the rage at the moment, and you’ve got a sure-fire hit.<\/p>\n\n

Pom poms can be bought with a push button, so they can be easily removed for washing or you can have several different ones to change with. <\/p>\n\n

For me, it’s a unisex beanie, as the color choice can make it very girly and boyish, so this year the whole family, both young and old, has been equipped with a Montreal beanie in their favorite color. Next year I’ll probably come up with something new and exciting, but this year it was the family hat. For our smallest, I took it down a stick to fit her head size. <\/p>\n\n

I used Alpaca Storm which is an ultra soft yarn from Norwegian Viking yarn.
